Genes can influence how we respond to nutrition. But a genetic association is not automatically a dietary recommendation.

This 10-lesson course gives you a clear foundation in nutrigenetics, nutrigenomics and epigenetics — and teaches you how to separate established science from claims that go beyond the evidence.

Nutrigenetics, Nutrigenomics and Epigenetics

Personalised nutrition is full of claims. Learn how to evaluate them.

A genetic variant may be associated with a biological trait. That does not automatically mean it predicts an individual's response, explains a health outcome, or justifies changing a dietary recommendation.

To understand nutrigenetics responsibly, you need to know what happens between DNA and phenotype — and how strong the evidence must be before a finding becomes useful.

This course was built to give you that foundation.

ASSOCIATIONCAUSATIONCLINICAL UTILITY

Understanding the difference changes how you read genetic and nutrition claims.

Built for people who want to understand the science, not just repeat the claims.

  • Nutrition professionals and students

For people who want a stronger foundation in genetics and personalised nutrition without overstating what current evidence can support.

  • Health professionals and health-science learners

For people who encounter genetic or personalised-health claims and want to understand the biology and evidence behind them.

  • Serious independent learners

For curious learners who want a rigorous but accessible introduction and do not already have a genetics background.

No prior genetics knowledge is required. The course begins with the fundamentals and builds progressively.

By the end of the course, you'll be able to:

  • Explain what a genetic variant is and why variants matter.
  • Distinguish nutrigenetics, nutrigenomics and epigenetics.
  • Follow the path from DNA to gene expression, protein, function and phenotype.
  • Understand why people can respond differently to similar exposures.
  • Distinguish association from causation.
  • Recognise when biological plausibility is being mistaken for proven clinical benefit.
  • Read nutrigenetics research more critically.
  • Understand what genetic testing can — and cannot — tell us about nutrition.
  • Recognise overstated personalised-nutrition claims.
  • Understand why genes are only one part of a much larger biological and environmental context.

See the biology, not just the terminology.

The course builds concepts step by step. For example, Lesson 2 follows biological information from DNA through gene expression and protein function to phenotype — while showing why a gene, a protein and an observable trait are related but not interchangeable.

  1. DNA
  2. RNA
  3. Protein
  4. Function
  5. Phenotype

Lesson 2 — From DNA to function

“A region of DNA that contains information for a functional product is called a gene. Some genes carry information for proteins; others produce functional RNA molecules.”

“This still does not mean that ‘the gene is lactase’. The gene is a region of DNA. Lactase is a protein made of amino acids, with a particular shape, location and function. Several biological steps lie between the two.”

10 lessons. One coherent foundation.

  1. 01Why do we respond differently to a similar exposure?
  2. 02From DNA to function
  3. 03Why our genomes differ
  4. 04Nutrigenetics: when genetic variation changes the response
  5. 05Nutrigenomics: when nutrition meets gene expression
  6. 06Epigenetics: regulation without changing the DNA sequence
  7. 07Gene × environment: the phenotype emerges in context
  8. 08“A gene for…”: from association to evidence
  9. 09Genetic testing: from sample to recommendation
  10. 10Personalised nutrition: what can we responsibly do today?

What makes this course different?

NUTRIGENOVIA does not teach personalised nutrition by turning every genetic association into a recommendation.

We start with the evidence.

The course repeatedly asks:

  • What does the study actually show?
  • Is the relationship associative or causal?
  • How large and reproducible is the effect?
  • Does biological plausibility translate into meaningful clinical utility?
  • What can responsibly be concluded for an individual?

The goal is not to make genetics sound more powerful. The goal is to understand it more accurately.

Clear scientific boundaries

This is an educational course. It does not interpret an individual's genetic test, diagnose health conditions, prescribe treatment, or replace individual medical or dietetic advice.

Its purpose is to build scientific understanding and critical evaluation of nutrigenetics, nutrigenomics, epigenetics and personalised-nutrition claims.
